| Key Responsibilities: The Pearson Institute's Director of Communications will be responsible to accomplish the following:- Establish and implement an overall proactive strategic communications agenda for The Pearson Institute, including the institute's evidence-based research agenda, the global forum, leadership and founding donor communications, and all related activities. - These communications activities are aimed, as appropriate, at international, national, regional and local media, as well as social media channels. - Advise the Executive Director and the Faculty Director on all matters concerning internal communications, media relations, and leadership communications, as they communicate with key constituents. Keep the founding donors advised as well.- Coalesce and lead a strategic communications planning process around the innovative and data-driven research being conducted, which is central to establishing The Pearson Institute as the world's leading institute for analysis and informing policy for the resolution of global conflicts.- As a related responsibility, coordinate closely with the Chicago Harris research teams and social scientists to generate timely internal and external communications underscoring how The Pearson Institute is creating a stronger connection between empirical research and policymaking.- As appropriate, identify themes and messaging, develop channels, and aggressively position the leadership of The Pearson Institute and the founding donors among all key audiences. This will include outreach to influential media.- Write or oversee the development of content including news releases, white papers, thought leadership, collateral and social media, including content for The Pearson Institute's comprehensive web site.- Develop a strategic media relations plan to generate broad targeted exposure of The Pearson Global Forum as a high-profile opportunity and a centerpiece annual event for The Pearson Institute and the University of Chicago.- Emphasize in all communications that the multi-faceted violent conflicts occurring throughout the world demand policymaking informed by the combination of multidisciplinary study, rigorous data-driven research, and sophisticated analysis as performed by The Pearson Institute every day. - Further, emphasize that these vital activities reflect that The Pearson Institute and The Pearson Global Forum are the first research institute and annual global forum of their kind devoted solely to the study and resolution of global conflicts.- Liaise with institute leadership and faculty to ensure that all messaging considers and reflects the latest significant research findings, and promote positive impacts on policy whenever possible.- Build relationships for The Pearson Institute, its leadership and the founding donors on a continuous basis with contacts at top-tier national and international print, electronic and broadcast media.- Leverage social media channels to connect with key audiences. Engage social media influencers and advocates. Research social media-related industry best practices to identify and recommend new tools and platforms.- Develop clear benchmarks and goals to generate metrics that accurately measure meaningful communications successes in a timely manner.- Drive The Pearson Institute's communications strategies across Chicago Harris and the entire University of Chicago community, to build a clear understanding of the institute's strategies and key activities, creating excitement about its progress and pride in its accomplishments. |
